Fuquay Peak Fitness members will soon be treated to better service with a high-end feel. O2 Fitness bought out the Fuquay Peak Fitness location Dec. 16, 2009 and began renovations this month.
“We want you to feel comfortable as soon as you walk in,” O2 Fitness Chief Operating Officer Kevin Hedley said.
O2 Fitness bought out Peak Fitness locations in North Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Fuquay because they saw that the gyms could be better managed. The eight-year-old company has several Triangle locations and wanted to expand its scope in the area.
O2 Fitness expects renovations, costing more than $500,000, to be completed in about two months. Gym members will see the changes happen right in front of them because the facility will remain open for use throughout the process. Hedley said the renovations will create an environment where Fuquay members have a nicer gym experience like a fine restaurant or hotel.
Peak Fitness members in North Raleigh and Chapel Hill, where renovations are complete, already see the difference. O2 Fitness works with Les Mills to offer more than 50 fitness-to-music classes a week like Body Attack, Body Flow and Body Jam. A new class is offered every quarter. Flat screen televisions hang from the ceiling in front of the cardio equipment, which have hook ups for headphones.
“Entertainment is a big part of what we do,” Hedley said.
In Fuquay, $350,000 will be spent on new equipment cardio machines with personal viewing screens have been added as well. The company buys top of the line equipment from Precor and Technogym.
“We really buy the best of the best in equipment,” Hedley said.
The equipment that was in the Peak Fitness location was badly abused; upholstery was duct taped together.
Prices will range from $39 to $49 per month with the option to add other features like childcare, towel service and a network package so members can go to other O2 Fitness locations. Enrollment costs $1 until March 1.
Hedley said Peak Fitness customers will keep their terms until it is time to renew their membership. While the membership price will go up at time of renewal, there will be a special rate for current customers.
Hedley said he encourages people to check out the changes.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making it great,” he said.
