BodyCombat isn't just another group fitness class; it's a fitness experience that combines martial arts moves to help you get fit, fast, and strong while feeling empowered!
If you've been thinking about trying a BodyCombat class or want to take your cardio routine to the next level, here's everything you need to know before joining us for the 100th release of BodyCombat at O2 Fitness Clubs.
What Type of Workout is BodyCombat?
Les Mills BodyCombat is a cardio-focused workout that uses high-intensity martial arts-inspired movements and added strength elements from challenging bodyweight exercises. This combination gives you a comprehensive, well-rounded workout that helps you improve your cardiovascular health, build functional strength, and improve endurance.
What Exercises Do You Do During BodyCombat?
In BODYCOMBAT, you will engage in a variety of martial arts-inspired exercises that are designed to get you fit, fast, and strong while feeling empowered. Some of the exercises you can expect to do in a BODYCOMBAT class include:
- Punches: You'll perform a series of punches such as jabs, hooks, and uppercuts to work your arms, shoulders, and core.
- Kicks: Various kicking techniques, including front kicks, side kicks, and roundhouse kicks, target your lower body muscles and improve flexibility.
- Strikes: Strikes involve quick and powerful movements, mimicking martial arts techniques to engage your full body and boost cardiovascular endurance.
- Lunges and Squats: Functional training moves like lunges and squats are incorporated to strengthen your legs, glutes, and core.
- High Knees: High knees are a cardio exercise that elevates your heart rate and works your leg muscles.
How Fit Do You Need to Be?
You don't need to be a professional martial artist or super fit to take a BodyCombat class. There are options built into the choreography that makes it suitable to all abilities.
During class, your instructor will coach you through all the moves and their modifications tp make them more or less advanced so you can adjust the class to fit your needs.
When you're just starting, it might take you a few sessions to get a feel for the movement patterns and how much energy you'll use in each class - but you'll get hooked soon!
Do You Need Special Equipment for a BodyCombat Class?
You don't need any special equipment for a BodyCombat class. We just recommend wearing comfortable workout clothes and supportive shoes. You'll also want to bring a water bottle with you!
How Often Should You Do BodyCombat?
For the best results, the Les Mills creators recommend taking BodyCombat two to three times a week. Adding some weight-based workout, plus core and flexibility training, into your weekly workout routine, and you will see results in no time!
Top Tips for BodyCombat Beginners:
- Listen to the instructor and keep an eye out for the options and modifications they'll suggest.
- If you have a hard time figuring out the combination, stop and watch for a couple of reps until you get the hang of it.
- Do what works for you! Take rests and recovery breaks as you need to.
- It's ok to pull back on your intensity and power. You can practice kicking lower and punching slower.
- Once you've taken a few classes, choose one area (kicks, hooks, jabs) to focus on improving your precision and technique to continue challenging yourself!
