It’s here again, the start of a fresh year. The chance for you to begin the next twelve months on the right foot and set some attainable goals for yourself, like eating healthier and exercising more. As important as these resolutions are, it can be much easier said than done. How do you set goals for yourself and keep them? We’ve got five tips on how to make your fitness goals last from the first of January all the way through December.
Keep it up.
A lack of motivation is one of the key things that keeps people away from the gym. Whether you set several alarms on your phone for a 6 a.m. workout or ask a friend to accompany you to a spin class, getting there is the first step. Once you’re there, it’s easier to establish a routine. Studies show that it takes about 21 days to start a habit, so if you keep up your routine for that period of time, the rest will come second nature.
Track your progress.
Noticing improvement in the beginning stages of your goal is hard to do unless you’re tracking your progress somehow. There are many tools to do this, whether you’re simply writing them down in a notebook or using an app on your phone. Make sure to make a note of how you’re feeling as the process goes along so you can look back on it and see how far you’ve come!
Reward yourself.
Make sure to take the time to treat yourself once in awhile! We don’t mean through something that will undo all your progress, but activities like a spa day to rejuvenate sore muscles or a fun weekend getaway to somewhere you’ve never been. After all, you deserve it!
Mix it up.
Workouts can get monotonous if you always have the same schedule. o2 Fitness has exciting specialty classes like barre, cycling and sculpting that make exercising a lot more interesting. Your body benefits from this kind of variety because you have the chance to work different muscles that you wouldn’t normally use.
Be reasonable with yourself.
Anything truly worth having takes time. As much as we’d love to wake up and see changes, that isn’t the reality. Be patient with yourself and give it a few months. If you stick with your healthy eating and exercising habits, you’ll improve both your body and attitude.
